The HC Standard® and Patient Tracking system already implemented in Northern Virginia was used to provide situational awareness and triage, treat, and transport 120 patients for the exercise. Global Emergency Resources trained Family Assistance Support Team, American Red Cross, and airline representatives on identification and reunification of family members using HC Standard.
The scenario was based on a Bombadier Q400 inbound to land on Runway Four that experienced severe flight control problems approximately 200 feet prior to the approach end of the runway. The aircraft impacted the runway, broke apart and burst into flames as it skidded onto the parking lot nearest the runway. Parts of the airplane struck vehicles driving nearby, pushing them into the parking lot and creating a debris field.
